Girls Varsity BasketballOne of the most anticipated events of the year is DC’s Tip-Off Tournament, which was definitely one to remember this year for the Lady Knights. In the first round, the Knights defeated The City School 59-35. Freshman Ella Stinger played a key role in this victory, scoring 20 points for the Knights. Alongside Stinger, freshman Mary O’Donnell added 8 points while sophomore Audrey Bechtel contributed 7 points to the Knights’ victory. As sophomore Andre Kremin said, “I loved watching the teams succeed and get the win for the first time in a while.” In the other opening round game, Atlantic Christian captured a victory against TCA with Ginna Flynn scoring 28 points. After this huge win over The City School, DC moved on to the championship game against Atlantic Christian on Saturday. Boys Varsity BasketballOn the weekend of December 13-14, the DC varsity boys basketball team took on The City School, The Christian Academy, and Atlantic Christian School in the 59th DC Tip-Off Tournament. One of the most anticipated events on the DC calendar, this historic tournament always lives up to expectations, and this year was no different. The DC boys opened up with The City School, where they dominated the competition, going on a 32-0 run to start off the game. Although the run was started by junior Laverne Sambola with 6 consecutive points, the star players of the game were the senior backcourt duo of Khamai Orange, who tallied 17 points, and Beau Lyren, who contributed 12 points. A notable accomplishment during the game was that of freshman Joel Johnson, who scored his first varsity points in the first half. Another veteran player who excelled was junior Bradford Berwick, who added 15 points to the Knights dominating 71-17 victory. Senior guard Atty Abobi commented, “I enjoyed the game agains

Boys/Girls Varsity Indoor TrackComing off an exceptional season last year, the Knights indoor track team prepares to meet a mingling of fresh challenges and favorable new assets that await them in the upcoming 2024 season. Last year, the team beheld the once-in-many-years occurrence of an athlete qualifying for the state championship, then the national championship, and finally the prestigious Millrose Games, as CJ Simbiri ’24 finished his senior season excelling in the triple jump. In addition, several senior girls qualified for the Meet of Champs, a rigorous culmination of the best athletes from the five-county area. “So many profited from the meets,” adds Senior Coach, Dr. George McFarland. Now, despite the loss of several stars, the team has received a boost of younger runners which has doubled its size from last year’s squad, bringing its total to approximately twenty-one boys and nine girls. Added to this, Coach McFarland and Coach Hill will have the assistance of Coach Henry Oestreich. While Coach M

Girls Varsity BasketballWith the completion of fall sports comes a bittersweet time, leaving the DC community craving more competition. Fortunately, there is the DC girls varsity basketball team for sports enthusiasts during the winter season. The team is led by Head Coach Jake Godino and Assistant Coaches Stephen Pulliam, Anne Goneau, and Logan Plosker. DC’s squad is led by four-year starter Addie Smith, a senior who again steps into the role of the veteran leader. “This season I would like to improve on my leadership and responsibility throughout the team,” she remarked. Last spring, Addie joined Tim FitzGerald and Dan Poirier in DC’s exclusive Lacrosse 100-Goal Club, becoming the first female athlete to ever accomplish this. While the Knights will rely upon some first-year players to fill out the roster, two returnees include sophomore Anna Latchford and junior Niamh Ireland, both of whom saw playing time last year.A significant new addition to the team is freshman Ella Stinger, a member of the L

Boys Varsity BasketballThis 2024-2025 basketball season will hopefully be one to remember. Last year, the varsity boys basketball team won 20 games, which was the first time they had captured this many victories since 2002. The squad also finished with a 14-1 record in the BAL. Coach Reggie Parks has many goals that he wants the team to achieve this upcoming season. Primarily, “I want to see the spiritual growth of the players and their ball skills improve.” Another goal that Coach Parks has is to win the DC Tip-off Tournament and to return to both the BAL and PIAA playoffs. This year, Coach Parks will be assisted by Mr. Matt Hummel, Mr. Kenneth Orange, and Mr. Jerome Staley. With the help of these veteran coaches and newcomer Coach Staley, the team is in good hands. With the graduation of inside force Luke Bushra and the transfer of senior Caleb Jameson, who was one of the best 3-point shooters in the state, many players will have to step up to fill the gaps. Boys Varsity Soccer“It was a unique year because we’ve never had to play with a target on our back,” Dr. Rob Atkins, the boys varsity soccer coach, explained. Coming off a 2023 season that saw the Knights win the PIAA Class 1A State Championship, the boys soccer team would play a very daunting schedule during the 2024 season. “There were a lot of high-caliber teams that wanted to play us,” Atkins remarked. Accordingly, the Knights took on a slew of large public schools with great soccer programs, leading to many very close games. “We lost several 1-0 games, and one was to Radnor, who ended up winning the 3A state championship,” Atkins stated. The team finished 9-11 on the season, ousted in the District 1 Semifinals by Calvary Christian. Despite the season not producing the team’s desired result, the team's emerging culture and values made the season very valuable. This season, the squad adopted an important phrase that heavily shaped their culture and led to measurable positive growth: “side over sel

Girls Varsity Field HockeyThis year, the DC field hockey team had a thrilling season, compiling an impressive 14-5 record, achieving a 9th place ranking in Class A, and advancing to the district semifinals. Along the way, Head Coach Jacklyn Daniel kept the squad engaged and focused, resulting in the team scoring 11 or more goals in four of their games. The team’s first game of the season was against Christopher Dock. After putting up a good fight, the Knights lost 4-2; however, this filled them with the determination to play better. The next game against Friends’ Central was quite a different story as the girls won, 11-0. By the time the squad played Dock again at Homecoming, they had 12 wins under their belt, giving them the confidence to average the earlier loss with a 1-0 win. These events led the Knights to the district semi-finals against Pope John Paul II, where DC waged a scoreless battle until the visitors tallied a very late second-half goal to win, 1-0.Incredibly, junior Alexa Cardone scored 32 of the

Boys/Girls Varsity Cross CountryAfter completing a very successful and memorable season this year, every member of the DC cross country team has a reason to be proud. Led by Head Coach Dr. George (Doc) McFarland, every athlete on the squad clearly contributed to the Knights’ success and achieved significant improvement through hard work and dedication. With hopes for an even greater postseason success, the Knights began the 2024 season with diligent training, conditioning, and invitationals to prepare them for their season ahead. Their hard work paid off, resulting in massive blowout victories in two BAL regional meets in mid-September, where the boys placed first in the pair of races, while the girls placed first once. By mid-October the Knights had completed their regular season meets and began postseason competitions, beginning with the BAL Championship, where the boys squad finished third, and the girls squad finished second. As a result of outstanding effort and performance, Knights senior athletes Gra

Boys/Girls Varsity GolfThe Delaware County Christian School golf team finished a great season with a regular-season record of 11-3, proving that they are a force to be reckoned with in the BAL. Under Head Coach Jack Mangene, who has been leading the Knights for two years now, they have built a close community that values both the sport and the friendships that it creates. This season, the squad pulled off an extremely close victory against rival Faith Christian Academy, winning by just one stroke—a moment that the players won’t forget anytime soon. The Knights’ regular season was full of highlights, including two major wins in the same week, each by 68 points. Those victories capped off their season on a high note and gave the team confidence heading into districts. Though their season ended there, the players are already looking ahead to next year.“Honestly, I think we could’ve gone further this year,” commented junior Alex Sterious, “but it is what it is. We’re coming back next year ready to crush it. We’ve

Girls Varsity TennisThe 2024 season was a memorable one for the DC tennis team. The “hardworking” team, as head coach Analia Peters described them, finished its rewarding season at the start of October, registering great accomplishments for many of the squad’s athletes. The team opened its season with a match against Jenkintown, putting up a tough fight before losing the contest. Next, they played Sacred Heart, where DC junior Lily Peters played an inspiring individual match against her opponent, Grace Kinkade. Lily won the first set, 6-4; tied the second set, 6-6, before losing the tiebreaker, 7-5; and brought home the victory in the decisive final set, 10-4. Unfortunately, Lily’s win was the lone victory as the Knights lost the match to Sacred Heart, 4-1. Following these two losses, though, the girls played BAL rival Dock Mennonite Academy and reversed their fortunes, winning every single set, 5-0. Just three days later, the team faced Dock again and repeated the impressive pe

Girls Varsity SoccerUnder the supportive coaching of Mr. Rob Irias, Ms. Alison Levis, and Mr. Jeremy Donovan, the DC girls soccer team ended a marvelous season with a 12-6-1 record, accumulating many dominant victories. Along the way, the Knights bested many teams in their conference, including The Christian Academy, Phil-Mont Christian Academy, and MaST Community Charter School. Equipped with eleven experienced seniors, including captains Julia Evans, Ella Irias, and Kate Latchford, the team well exceeded last year’s 8-8-2 record. Two key components to the team’s success this year were its mindset and its unity. Throughout their season, Coach Irias stressed the theme of confidently persevering together and playing soccer as a team through triumphs and trials. This team took their theme to heart as the last six games in the regular seasons were wins in which they gave up no more than four goals during their losses. “I think this year our record was exceptional because of the overall skill we possessed

Boys Varsity FootballHaving completed the KSFL regular season with an unblemished 6-0 record, the Knights’ 8-man football team subsequently claimed the school’s first-ever playoff victory on November 2 with a convincing 42-22 win over Model Secondary School of the Deaf, setting the stage for a home championship tilt one week later against the league’s two-time defending champions, Maryland School for the Deaf. Unfortunately, despite a heroic fourth-quarter comeback spearheaded by senior quarterback Sam Dixon, DC fell just eight points short of forcing overtime, resulting in a 26-18 championship loss to the Orioles on Saturday, November 9. After quickly falling behind 12-0 in the first quarter on a pair of short MSD touchdown runs on back-to-back possessions, head coach Lloyd Hill’s squad gamely fought back in the second stanza, retaliating with a five-year touchdown run by Dixon–the 2023 KSFL Offensive Player of the Year–and effectively cutting the deficit to six before halftime. Boys/Girls Varsity GolfUnder the second-year tutelage of coaches Mr. Jack Mangene, Mr. Alex McGee, and Mr. Zach Bruecks, the DC golf team possesses extremely high morale and is poised for another playoff push. Led by senior captains James Connolly and Porter Roberts, the squad has experienced considerable success due to a plethora of factors, including a strong team culture and excellent leadership. Currently, the golf team is in the midst of an uber-successful season, with a current record of 5-2, and is on pace to finish tied with Faith Christian Academy in the BAL. In the case this does happen, the two squads would go head-to-head in a shoot-off, sending forth their respective five best golfers, with the lowest collective score being victorious. This exciting news is no coincidence but can be traced back to the team culture that was established since day one. “The culture of the team is lively and supportive,” explained James. “As a team we are always looking out for one another but always ensur

Girls Varsity Field HockeyAfter establishing themselves as a strong team that finished with a competitive 7-5-1 record last season and falling just short of a district title, DC’s varsity girls field hockey team is not only optimistic about another postseason berth this season but is also anticipating the possibility of winning an elusive BAL title. Led by Coach Jackie Barr, the Knights have all the talent that they need for success. Previously, the Knights defeated enough of their BAL rivals during the 2023 season to capture a postseason berth. “Our games against Jenkintown and Plumstead were very big league wins for us,” explains Coach Barr. “Winning those games really helped us get into district playoffs.” The squad defeated these rivals 3-1, and 4-2, respectively. Moreover, these victories emerged from a maturing team as the Knights were led by current junior Alexa Cardone, who led the team in goals (22), assists (9), and points (53). In fact, Cadone is ranked 68th in the country and 17th in the s

Girls Varsity SoccerAfter last year's optimistic 8-8-2 record, the girls soccer team is hopeful to exceed last year’s mark and march through the PIAA districts en route to a potential state playoff berth. This season, they are piloted by eleven seniors, three of whom are strong captains: Julia Evans, Ella Irias, and Kate Latchford. The players' experience on this year's team speaks well of their chances, especially under the guidance of fourth-year coach, Mr. Rob Irias. Not only has the team grown in skill, but they have also developed a true love for the game. “We have grown in joy this year,” declares senior Julia Evans. “I’ve seen an increase in genuine excitement and enjoyment on the field and during practice. We are simply happy to be playing together and that is such a great thing.” This jubilation has been fostered by the Lord as the girls are working to forget about the scoreboard and reminding themselves that they are playing for the glory of God. Boys Varsity SoccerThe boys varsity soccer team anticipates another great season after last year's PIAA 1A State Championship win over Charleroi High School. As senior wing Judah Cooper says, “With our success from last season, I hope we do even better this season.” Indeed, the prospects for this year’s team are promising. “Even though we lost some critical players this season I think we still have the ability to be great,” insists sophomore Matteo DeBellis. Some of the key graduates from last year’s championship squad are Cortez Cardone, Griffin Schmitt, and Jake Matthews. Nevertheless, many seniors have stepped up early in the 2024 season to fill the gaps, including Matthew Levis, Judah Cooper, Ben Norbury, and Cam Vavala. Another key player who has emerged is sophomore Carter Dill, who is replacing graduate Jake Matthews as a goalie. These key seniors hope to carry the team to another state championship. Boys/Girls Varsity Cross CountryLast year, the boys cross country team barely missed qualifying for the state championship, losing by a single point to Bristol High School. This close brush with the state championship should give the team a surge of motivation to shoot for state qualification this year. On top of this, many of the runners are encouraged by the team’s performance thus far. Senior Sam D’Antonio, three-year captain of the boys team, exclaims, “We’ve all been running exceptionally well. It’s been the best start to the season we’ve had for us seniors since freshman year.” In addition, the first BAL meet strongly affirmed the team’s high expectations as the Knights placed first in both the boys and girls divisions. While the team’s success is one feature that stands out thus far, also unique is the variety of grade levels represented on the boys team. Last year, juniors and freshmen dominated the squad. This year, however, the team’s composition includes four seniors, a junior, four sophomores, and two fres

Girls Varsity TennisAs the girls tennis team at Delaware County Christian School enters the final three weeks of their season, the players and coaches reflect on their progress in achieving their goals. With a current league record of 2-2 and a mainly new lineup, the team is working to overcome challenges but remains focused on maintaining growth, developing teamwork, and building a strong foundation. Last year, the team faced significant difficulties, including lineup changes against strong opponents such as Jenkintown. According to junior Sonya Curyto, one of the team captains, "Last year, the most difficult thing we dealt with was switching the lineup as a result of injuries." This year’s season has its own challenges as the team faces a rebuilding process. Boys Varsity FootballOne year removed from a stellar 5-2 regular-season record and a fourth-place finish in the wildly competitive Keystone State Football League, the DC Knights’ varsity football team looks to field yet another strong entry in 2024 as Head Coach Lloyd Hill’s seasoned squad takes aim at capturing their first 8-man title in school history.Under the tutelage of Hill and long-time Assistant Coach Chip Ridewood, the Knights will once again hang their hopes on senior quarterback sensation Sam Dixon, the KSFL 2023 Offensive Player of the Year. With Dixon at the trigger, the Knights produced massive offensive numbers last year, largely the result of the two-year starter hurling 14 scoring strikes to a bevy of capable targets while galloping through opposing defenses to the tune of twelve hundred-plus yards and an incredible 20 rushing touchdowns. “We had a phenomenal season last year,” remarked Coach Hill.Despite the departure of the graduating tight-end tandem of Tommy Goneau and Jackson Lewis, t
