DC Athletics Middle School Sports Information & Registration 2024-2025

Posted on 06/10/2024

Dear DC 5th Grade and Middle School Families (Grades 6 - 7),

Athletics had a great spring season for middle school teams! The DC Athletic Department now invites your child to express interest in a sport(s) (by June 15) for next year’s middle school sports teams. Each team will have a 7-8 week season (approximately). Please read this letter to learn about our sports offerings, the PIAA physical exam requirement, attendance and games, tryout policy, and your opportunity to fill out an online form(s) to indicate what sports your child would like to play next year. It is important we receive your selections by June 15 to make sure our projected roster sizes match our game schedule, uniform needs, and coaching needs.

Fall 2024: Cheerleading, Cross Country, Boys Flag Football, Field Hockey, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer

  • The start date is September 3 for all sports other than cheerleading. The start date for cheerleading will be August 19, and the team will be a combined roster for upper and middle school students.

Winter 2024-25: Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Cheerleading (Varsity)

  • Boys Basketball will begin on January 6, 2025.
  • Girls Basketball will begin on October 28, 2024.
  • Cheerleading will begin on November 15, 2024.

Spring 2025: Baseball, Boys Lacrosse, Girls Lacrosse, Softball, Track and Field

  • The start date is March 10, 2025.

PIAA Physical Exam Forms

All middle school students who intend to participate in a sport for the next school year must submit a CIPPE form in Magnus. To access the form in Magnus, log in to your child’s Magnus account and look for PIAA Physical Exam Forms 24-25. Section 6 will need to be completed by a physician.

Attendance & Games

Before joining a team, parents and student-athletes should understand what commitment to a team entails. After joining the team, each student-athlete is responsible for fulfilling this commitment by attending all team practices, contests, and required team functions. Occasionally, a student-athlete may incur an injury during a season, and where at all possible, we encourage the student-athlete to attend and sit with the team during contests. The Athletic Department works with the Middle School Office to limit conflicts between athletic commitments and other DC-related school functions. If you foresee a conflict, please communicate these situations to your coach as early as possible.

Student-athletes will participate in practices and games four days a week, Monday - Thursday from 3:30 - 5:00 pm. Some practices may start and end earlier, depending on facility location. Occasionally, a practice or game will be scheduled on a Friday and an alternative day of the week will be the day off.

Tryouts

Cuts may be necessary depending on the number of students who try out for a team in order to maintain a healthy roster.

SignUpGenius

Use the links (below) to sign up for teams. Student-athletes may only sign up for one sport per season. If you already signed up your child for teams next year, you don’t need to complete this step again (and you’ll see your child’s name listed on the appropriate sign-up page).
