Team on the Rise

Updated on 06/10/2024 | Jonathan Clipston

DC’s girls lacrosse team achieved a respectable 8-8 record, finishing ninth in the district and third in the BAL this season. The team was led by a trio of coaches: Mr. Mark Schreiber, Mr. Einar Peters, and Mrs. Terry Corson. Mrs. Corson said her favorite part of the season was “how good the girls played together and overcame Jenkintown as a team.”

The Knights defeated Jenkintown for the first time in girls lacrosse, beating them by the score of 7-5. By the fourth quarter, the two teams were tied at 5-5, but senior Maggie Iott scored two goals, securing the victory. Defensively, goalie Kiley Schmitt made some crucial saves, helping the Knights to a major BAL victory.

Significantly, Junior Addie Smith scored her 100th career goal at mid-season, a huge milestone for Addie and a mark that many others hope to achieve. Additionally, the junior led the team with 43 goals this season alone, earning a spot on the first team all BAL. Addie says that her favorite part about being on the team is “being surrounded by people who deeply and truly care about me as a person and player.” Another outstanding player, junior goalie Kiley Schmitt, registered 148 saves, leading the BAL. Moreover, Lily Peters won All-BAL First Team honors for midfield this season.

In addition to these three underclassmen, many seniors also received recognition in the BAL. On attack, Lily Elliott and Maggie Iott both won All-BAL First Team honors while defender Ashanti Harris was included on the All-BAL First Team for defense. Lastly, Chloe Bryant won All-BAL honors for midfield while leading the team with 20 assists.

Unfortunately, senior Sydney Stevens, who suffered an ACL injury, was unable to play alongside her teammates, but she was still a crucial member of the team, encouraging her teammates from the sidelines and actively helping the defense to improve.

Even with the loss of some crucial seniors, DC girls lacrosse hopes to have an even better season next year. As Mrs. Corson says, “Even with some seniors leaving, we still have the potential to be good if the girls work hard for it.”
