A New Era
Posted on 03/26/2026 | Asher Pitofsky
The Delaware County Christian School boys tennis team is heading to the courts this spring with considerable excitement and even more new faces. After a very strong run where the Knights won back-to-back Bicentennial Athletic League (BAL) titles in 2023 and 2024, the team is now entering a season of growth and transition.
Last year was a significant highlight for the program as the Knights dominated their league, fighting hard all the way to the PIAA District 1-2A finals. It was a season that put DC tennis on the map, but it also marked the end of an era for a core group of players. Last year, the program graduated seven seniors last year, including some of the top-seeded players, such as Matthew Levis and Daniel Ho, all of whom helped rebuild the team from the ground up a few years ago.
While losing a multitude of players would be a setback for most teams, the Knights are looking at the loss of key players as an opportunity. Fortunately, there is a significant influx of new students joining the roster this year, bringing fresh energy to the courts. Understandably, the coaching staff is eager to see this new talent develop, and the team is focused on building chemistry between the experienced returners and the incoming players.
Leading the charge is veteran coach Mr. Jim Pitofsky, who emphasizes a culture of growth over the pressure of winning. He shares a vision for the season that goes beyond simply winning matches: “My hope is not about the outcome for the team in wins and losses but, rather, about everybody playing with joy and free hearts…learning and appreciating the game.” This approach has been a trademark of the DC tennis program, allowing the boys to compete at a high level while truly enjoying the sport.
The veteran players are already embracing their roles as leaders. Senior Joshua Thomas is ready to make his final year a memorable one. “I’m looking forward to my last season and hope to end the year well,” Thomas says, reflecting the heart of the senior class. Meanwhile, junior captain Anders McKeaney is focused on the future of the program and supporting his new teammates. He notes that he is “hoping we can stay strong and help bring up some of the newer players” as they learn the ropes of varsity competition.
With a mix of steady veteran leadership and a hungry group of newcomers, the DC Knights are poised for another strong year. Win or lose, the team is ready to play with heart and keep the program’s winning tradition alive.
