A Strike at Redemption

Following a 10-12 season and a trip to the District 1A title game, the Delaware County Christian School Knights baseball team is looking to build on last season in hopes of winning the District 1A Championship game this year.
Although the Knights lost a few key players such as Sam Dixon and Beau Lyren to graduation, they return a majority of their lineup, including recently named junior captains Justin Ma, Gabe DiGregorio, and Matteo DeBellis. Moreover, the Knights will continue to be helmed by veteran head coach Jeff Wisnewski. With the departures from last season, DeBellis stressed that others “ will have to step up.” The junior shortstop remarked, “One challenge will be our pitching situation as new guys will have to step up into a larger pitching role due to five strong pitchers graduating last season.” Justin Ma, a fellow junior captain, added that he “hopes to grow stronger as a team in all aspects within the game.”
One thing remains the same between this year’s team and last year’s team: chemistry. “The environment within the team has been great,” noted DeBellis. “The upperclassmen are teaching the younger players to play loose and relaxed, and it has created a great bond within the team.” Similarly, Ma added, “I expect our hitting and defense to be very strong this year as well as our team chemistry.”
All three captains noted that the team’s main goal is to win the District 1A championship game this year and qualify for the state playoffs. They hope to avenge last year’s loss to Faith Christian in the district final to ultimately punch their ticket to states.
Ultimately, with experienced leadership, strong team chemistry, and a shared goal of capturing a District 1A championship, the Delaware County Christian School Knights baseball team has positioned itself to make another deep run. The team may very well find itself back in the district final and, this time, celebrating a championship and a berth in states.
